My doula journey began with the birth of my daughter when I was supported by my amazing doula Georgie, she inspired me to start my journey and to use my passion to help others.
I am currently studying to be an accredited Antenatal teacher with Antenatal Wisdom. This course is allowing me to develop my skills as well as learn new ones. I also run North Cornwall branch of The Positive Birth Movement and we hold monthly free meetings to discuss positive birth topics and support women in achieving their positive birth. I am also a cloth nappy adviser and volunteer with my local nappy library.
I hold a Diploma of higher education in Criminology and psychological studies which may seem unrelated to birth but actually has taught me a lot about the impact events such as birth have on people and how important feeling supported and respected is in life. It also involved studying child development which has help me to understand how babies develop and how their early experiences can have long term effects on them.
I completed Nurturing Birth’s doula training in November 2014. During the course I learnt a lot of practical ways to support women during pregnancy, birth and the first few weeks of having a new baby. I am passionate about giving the control back to women during pregnancy and labour and supporting them while they make informed choices about their pregnancy and birth. I am right at the beginning of my journey and intend to continue to grow and learn with a variety of study days and courses. I support women wherever they decide to give birth: Home birth, hospital birth or planned caesarean. My aim is to empower women to have a positive birth experience and to be fully informed and in control of their birthing choices.
My doula services include Antenatal, birth and postnatal packages which can be tailored to suit your individual needs. I believe that with information and support all women can have a birth that they look back on with pride and positive memories. I will help you learn about the physiology of birth, comfort measures to use in labour, the importance of the golden hour after birth plus much more. If you choose my birth package then I will be there to support you every step of the way for as long as you want me during labour and immediately afterwards.
