Welcome to the Positive Birth Movement (PBM), and to our Pretoria, South Africa group!
PBM began as a grassroots movement, and now spreads positivity about childbirth via a global network of hundreds of PBM Groups, like this one, which are linked up by social media.
We believe that every woman deserves a positive birthing experience. We think a positive birth is one in which a woman has freedom of choice, access to accurate information, and feels in control, confident and respected. We are a woman-centered movement and we respect all women’s human rights to choose where and how they have their baby. We think you can birth with positivity in hospital, at a birthing center or at home, with or without medical interventions. Positive Birth is not about the kind of birth, rather it’s about approaching birth realistically, having genuine choice, and feeling empowered by your experience.
The Pretoria, South Africa group welcomes all expectant mothers and birth companions, parents, babes in arms, and birth workers. Our aim is to create a community, connect and learn from each other in a supportive, informative and respectful environment as we talk about birth and our different options. The facilitator and participants of each session will work together to create a caring, open, and non-judgmental atmosphere. We also agree to respect the confidentiality of those who wish to share personal information.
Our meetings are informal, inclusive and always have a snack and coffee/tea/water available. The easiest way to keep updated about our gatherings is to follow our Facebook page or email our group facilitator, Kim (details below).
