Hello!
My name is Tortie and for the last few years i have been facilitating the Bristol Positive Birth Movement meetings. I am an experienced birth and postnatal doula and mother of two (both very positive births.) I’ve been supporting families for 10 years here in Bristol and am passionate about women feeling empowered and informed to make good choices for themselves, to have truly positive births, no matter their mode or place of birth.
These meetings are a wonderful coming together of commnity to support, inform and share- from all stages of pregnancy and parenthood. We also have the regular support of midwives and other birth professionals who are positive birth enthusiasts and regularly particiapte in meetings.
MEETING DATES
Usually we meet monthly in person from 7-9pm (see flyer image/facebook page for all dates for the year.) *However* we have adapted to the current Covid restrictions and are running our meetings online until we can meet in person again! So stay updated with meeting times and zoom log in details, by checking our facebook page (link below.) Our usual dates are listed on the flyer image, but while we have moved online, dates *may* vary. Please refer to FB page for up to date information. If you do not use Facebook, please contact Tortie and she will make every effort to share meeting details in some other way.
MEETING IN PERSON
When it is possible to meet again in person, we meet at The Wild Goose Space, The Yard, St Werburghs, Bristol, BS2 9YP (7.00-9.00pm.) Parking is free. Please park on Mina Road, and not in The Yard. Refreshments are provided. We provide seating, cushions and birth balls to sit on, but bring along anything else you might need to make yourself comfortable.
REMOTE MEETINGS
Whilst meeting remotely, we will use ZOOM. You do not need to download the app to your device, you simply follow the link shared in the monthly meeting event details.
STORIES
Every month we invite one or two couples to share their birth story, to form the first half of the meeting. This is a hugely valuable part of the meetings. If you are interested in coming along to share your story, then please email Tortie to arrange.
MONTHLY TOPICS
We create a space to hold discussions around a monthly topic, and will bring some prompts and activities to get people talking. We welcome any questions, whether relating to the monthly topic or not. It is your space to explore what a positive means to you!
CONTRIBUTIONS
The group is not for profit – monetary contributions go towards venue hire, refreshments and annual PBM group membership fee. Whilst we meet remotely, your contributions can be made here, and will pay for the cost of the monthly zoom package instead of venue hire, and the annual PBM membership. There is a suggested contribution of £4 per person, but no one will be turned away if they cannot contribute, If you feel the group has been especially helpful to you and you can afford to put in a little more, you will be helping those who cannot, and ensure the group continues.
