We are Virginia Howes and Kay Hardie, Independent Midwives in Kent. Our mission is to inform, inspire and empower parents to consciously participate in the wonders of pregnancy and childbirth. Using new and age-old knowledge, we are committed to assisting families achieve the birthing experience they desire and helping babies to be born gently and safely. We strive to welcome new generations of children who will become strong, confident and caring adults as a result of a positive beginning to life.
The midwife is going to be one of the most important people in your life during your exciting journey into motherhood. Having a midwife who you know and trust to accompany and care for you has been proven by endless studies to be the safest maternity care available. The only way you can guarantee having this type of continuity in maternity care is to employ an independent midwife.
Having a baby is the most unique time in your life. Unique because it cannot be compared to any other experience, situation or feeling. You may be filled with wonder, love, confusion, apprehension or excitement and navigating those feelings will help you to grow into a strong and confident mother. Your own, known midwife is important to help you psychologically and emotionally as well as ensuring you and your baby are physically healthy throughout the pregnancy, the birth and during those vital early weeks. This continuity of care enables a trusting loving relationship to develop, not only with the woman but with the whole family. As a result women undergo less interventions and have less health problems for themselves and their babies. The midwife considers the woman as an individual and can really listen to what she needs, really understand the woman as a person rather than just a patient and she is not limited with the amount of time she can give each woman.
This type of care unfortunately is rarely available in the NHS but is available at Kent Midwifery Practice. Under our care you will come to know your midwife like a friend, and have her at the end of the phone 24/7.
