I was able to carry my non-identical twin boys to 39+6 weeks. I listened to a hypnobirthing cd most days and attended antenatal yoga classes, which really helped my fitness and wellbeing. When my waters broke at about 11pm on 12th January 2015 I called both my doula and the hospital; when we arrived at midnight the contractions were coming every five minutes.
We made the room our own: fairy lights; cd playing; and homeopathic remedies. The room was quiet and the midwives respected my wishes to keep things low key with minimal intervention. I went on all fours and rocked on my gym ball, I was in the zone...peaceful and in a good place.
I birthed the first twin at 04.03am on 13th January, he weighed a healthy 7lbs 4oz. The second baby was manually turned calmly and without panic as he was transverse. He was born at 05.37am weighing 7lbs 7oz. I had no pain relief for the births, only gas and air for the manual turning of my second son.
This was an amazing hospital birth for twins, it was everything I wanted. Although a homebirth had been my real dream, I was able to get the birth I wanted in a hospital environment. It took determination but I went with my gut feeling and made myself heard. I fought against the pressure to be induced at 37 weeks and negotiated a 40 week deadline; and I got the natural birth I wanted two days before my booked induction. Loved birthing my boys.
